The Wonder Studio: Artist Educators
The Fruitmarket and Starcatchers are seeking two artist educators from visual and performance art disciplines
The Fruitmarket and Starcatchers are seeking two artist educators from visual and performance art disciplines to co-create artistic experiences with children aged 0 – 5 for The Wonder Studio, an ambitious new two-year programme.
After a two-year closure period, the Fruitmarket reopens in July 2021 with new and reinvigorated spaces. The building now includes our first ever engagement Studio: a safe and dedicated space at the heart of the building, in which audiences can engage with art and ideas. The Studio and more accessible spaces and facilities allow the Fruitmarket to work with very young children and their families for the first time.
Over two years The Wonder Studio artists will work with children aged 3 – 5 from Greengables nursery in Craigmillar. In the first year, two projects lead to celebration events at Lyra in the local community, and at the Fruitmarket. The second year develops the programme into public sessions for 0 – 5 year olds at the Fruitmarket, run in conjunction with children at Greengables nursery.
We are seeking two freelance artist educators from different disciplines within the visual and performing arts to work together to lead the creative programme. Artists will be responsible for designing and delivering creative activities, in consultation with Fruitmarket and Starcatchers staff. Creative content will link to the artists own professional skills and interests, and to the Fruitmarket’s exhibition programme. In year 1 the first project will be centred on the artist educators’ practice, and the second linking to the Fruitmarket’s exhibition programme.
The Fruitmarket aims to reach people who have been under-represented in audiences, in our team and in the sector and have prioritised increasing representation of disabled people; people who are black, Asian or from an ethnic minority background; and people from a low socio-economic background. The Fruitmarket welcomes all people no matter their age, race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, class, cultural background, disability, marital status, pregnancy or maternity status.
We welcome applications from individual artists and joint applications from two artists with an existing practice of working together. Artists interested in being considered for these freelance positions should submit the following as one document, on no more than three sides of A4; or as a short 3 – 5 minute video or sound file:
- A statement outlining your knowledge, skills and experience in relation to the opportunity, focusing on the above criteria
- A maximum of six images and/or films via weblink of your work with young children. Please embed images/weblinks into the file
- A brief CV
Please complete an Equal Opportunities Form to send with your application. Please submit applications by email with the header The Wonder Studio to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline for applications: Friday 25 June, 5pm
