In this workshop you will explore new ways of listening with artist Henry McPherson who leads this workshop featuring exercises in sonic meditation, listening to bodies in space, and posing questions about how our identities interact sonically, visually, and physically with the world around us. Participants are invited to bring audio recorders, musical instruments, and things that make noise.
This workshop will take place in a mixture of the gallery and outdoor locations. Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoors.
Henry McPherson was one of the artists who took part in Open Bodies, a residency programme for artists working with performance with an interest in gender and/or sexuality. This programme was designed jointly by Despina (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and The Fruitmarket Gallery with support from British Council and Creative Scotland. In September 2018 Henry shared studio space in Despina with fellow artists Stephanie Black-Daniels, Vinícius Pinto Rosa and Miro Spinelli. There will be installations, performance and traces of the four artists’ work in the gallery on the day and in the evening (6.30–8.30pm) there will be live presentations from Henry McPherson and Stephanie Black-Daniels.
