Fresh Fruit Pop Up: Anime Studio

Anime Studio, Sun 2 Feb, 2–5pm
Free, drop-in for 8-15 year olds
At Waverley Mall, 3/48 Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1BQ. Find us on the lower level, in between Anime Republic and New Look.

Fresh Fruit Pop Up is an open creative space for 8–15 year olds to drop-in, make art and chat to peers.

In this studio takeover in collaboration with Anime Republic experiment with drawing, sculpture and printmaking to create your own game inspired by the Japanese animation style. Draw, sculpt and print anime characters from life with our special guests cosplay (costume play) models from the University of Edinburgh Anime and Animation Society.

This is the third block of art workshops and artist Louise Fraser and Intern Brooke Milliken have been collecting your ideas about creative activities for the space. Studio Takeover responds to these ideas, exploring drawing; sculpture; printmaking; and a collaboration with Anime Republic focusing on anime – the animation style originating in Japan – and manga Japanese comic art.

Sessions take place in a new dedicated unit at Waverley Mall during The Fruitmarket Gallery’s building development. You’ll be supported to take over the space and develop ideas for creative programmes for young people in the new Fruitmarket building when it opens in 2020.
