Audiences say:
"Brilliantly curated, fantastically paced, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and an opportunity to learn a lot about a new (for me) area of culture”
“Filling a cultural gap in Edinburgh - a space for audio art curated with great consideration and respect for the audience!”
“Absolutely brilliant! It was a pleasure to see performances like this in Edinburgh and in such a cool venue. Intensely thought provoking and aurally stunning.”
Deep Time is Fruitmarket’s festival for new music which takes place each winter in our purpose-built space for cross-artform work – the Fruitmarket Warehouse. Programmed with a different curatorial voice every year, each edition takes a generative theme as its starting point. By joining as a friend of Deep Time today you will empower us to support world-class composers, musicians and artists to take creative risks, explore interpretive and collaborative ways of making work, test new commissions in front of live audiences, and explore the frontiers of music and contemporary art.
Previous guest curators of Deep Time include pianist and performer Katherine Tinker (2023), experimental vocalist, movement artist and composer Elaine Mitchener (2024). In November 2025 the festival was curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning Diné/ Navajo composer, performer and artist Raven Chacon. Deep Time: I See Red was an acknowledgement of current urgencies of ecological and civil unrest through the liberation of loud noises.
The curator of Deep Time 2026 will be announced in Spring 2026.
