Thu 21 Feb. 10am–1pm. Free. Book via Eventbrite
In this workshop you will work with artist Stephanie Black-Daniels as she guides you to use performance to explore gender complexities within Edinburgh’s socio-political context. These experiments will lead to site-specific responses to different locations. Participants will be able to document and share their ideas during the session.
This workshop is for people who identify as female. It will take place in a mixture of gallery and outdoor locations. Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoors.
Stephanie Black-Daniels was one of the artists who took part in Open Bodies, a residency programme for artists working with performance with an interest in gender and/or sexuality. This programme was designed jointly by Despina (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and The Fruitmarket Gallery with support from British Council and Creative Scotland. In September 2018 Stephanie shared studio space in Despina with fellow artists Henry McPherson, Vinícius Pinto Rosa and Miro Spinelli. There will be installations, performance and traces of the four artists’ work in the gallery on the day and in the evening (6.30–8.30pm) there will be live presentations from Stephanie Black-Daniels and Henry McPherson.
