Wikipedia Editathon: Scottish Artists of Colour
The second in our series of Wikipedia Editathons focusing on the pages of artists of colour.
Join artist and cultural practitioner Tanatsei Gambura, Sara Thomas (Scotland Programme Coordinator for Wikimedia UK) and Fruitmarket staff as we research and edit Wikipedia pages that record the lives of contemporary artists of colour in Scotland. Following the success of our previous Wikipedia Editathon ‘A presence in history’, during which we created pages for Alberta Whittle, Hardeep Pandhal and Farah Saleh, among others, this event picks up this important work, with many pages yet to be written about inspiring artists working in Scotland today.
Wikipedia is the fifth most visited website in the world, a source of free and accessible information, but people of colour are underrepresented in both its content and among its editors. We want to work on addressing the passive and active erasure of the creative work of people of colour – historical and current – in our community.
