A writing workshop with Tako Taal
Tuesday 14.11.23. 2.30–5pm. 12 places. Free. Book via Eventbrite
Artist Tako Taal leads a close reading and writing workshop based on Zarina Bhimji’s work and materials.
The workshop will take place in Fruitmarket’s current exhibition of Bhimji’s work, Flagging it Up, drawing inspiration from moving image, photography and installation work. The workshop will look at Bhimji’s use of text within art works such as ‘She Loved to Breathe – Pure Silence’, and Taal will set the group up with writing exercises drawn from photographic slides. Over the course of the afternoon the group will explore adapting and repurposing others’ words, and consider ways to combine these words with imagery and objects to speak to complex emotions.
Tako Taal is an artist and programmer. She works alongside spectral, cited and physical beings to undermine history and destabilise images. At stake in her artistic practice are the psychic structures of colonial relations, and the question of how vivid they remain in the present. She lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland.
Access support available: please contact iain@fruitmarket.co.uk if there is something we can do to make it easier for you to attend. This might be money for childcare or an additional place for a support assistant for you. We will try to make attendance possible where we can.
