As usual, the event runs over two busy weekend days with stalls laid out to showcase a wide array of work. Artists’ Bookmarket is complemented by a busy events and workshops programme. Visitors come from across Scotland and beyond to make this date with artists’ books and artist-led as well as DIY self-publishing.

Edinburgh Zine Festival 2024 events:

Zines as/and Performance

Monday 05.02.24. 6–8pm. Online. Pay what you can by donation. Book via Eventbrite here

This panel will explore the connection between zines & performance and ways zines themselves can be considered ‘performance’. With contributions from Klara Szafranska & Hamish MacPherson, they will join Edinburgh Zine Library member Natifah White to share their experience of zine & performance-making as well as discuss the connection (and potential) between the two practices.

This event will include a pre-recorded panel discussion, followed by a live Q&A with panel members. The event will be on zoom – links will be sent out the day before.

EZF x Quizogny Quiz Night!

Thursday 08.02.24. 6–7.30pm. Online. £5 per team. Book via Eventbrite here

Pit your knowledge against other zinesters at this Edinburgh Zine Festival quiz special, hosted by Quizogny – an intersectional feminist pub quiz zine fighting the patriarchy over five rounds.

Join us on zoom. Expect challenging (but fun) questions and amazing zine themed prizes (did someone say long armed stapler?) Teams of up to 5 people. Only one person needs to sign up per team. Links will be shared the day before. The quiz will be captioned, and all visual questions will have image descriptions.

Driving Your Players Mad: An RPG workshop

Saturday 10.02.24. 10–11.15am. In person event at Fruitmarket. £5 (PWYC tickets available). Book via Eventbrite here

Games don’t have to be fun. In this workshop we’ll look at how you can communicate about your own experiences by changing how you present choices in your games. What happens when choices are boring or frustrating? What if some choices are easier than others? We’ll look at a number of examples from different media, including books, zines and video games and discuss how they make their players feel, and then how you might design choices to mimic your own experiences.

Content Warning for discussion around mental health, suicide and related topics. Please wear a facemask if possible. All ages (under 16s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult).
