Art Lab: Cutting Issues
Art workshops for 12 – 15 year olds
This is a two-part workshop with sessions taking place on Sundays 5 and 12 December. Please book in for both dates.
2 – 4pm, Free. (15 places for 12–15 year olds. Young people of colour particularly welcome)
In this two part workshop you’ll create mutli-media artwork combining sculptural cut-outs and film, inspired by Howardena Pindell’s abstract and activist work. Over two sessions led by artists Louise Fraser and Eden Bø Dower, create clay cutting tools and make a film or projection focusing on personal or political issues. Cut shapes into a clay slab and view your film through it. Add colour to the cut-out shapes and experiment with laying them over text and images to create changing layers of meaning.
Content warning Pindell’s exhibition contains imagery and descriptions of racism. These workshops are a safe and supported space for young people to engage with and reflect on the exhibition and make new work.
